Position Overview

SFMade seeks a creative and dynamic part-time Marketing Associate to manage our digital communications and content creation. This role is instrumental in telling the stories of San Francisco Bay Area’s vibrant manufacturing community through various digital channels, including social media, newsletters, and blog content.

 

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Create and schedule engaging content for LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Collaborate with Program Director and Development Director to develop and maintain a content calendar.
  • Design visually appealing graphics using Canva.
  • Create and edit video content for social media platforms.
  • Photograph and create short videos of manufacturer meetups and events.
  • Monitor and engage with community interactions.

 

Newsletter Production and Blog Creation

  • Coordinate with team members to gather content and updates; draft monthly newsletters using Mailchimp.
  • Maintain, analyze, and segment email subscriber lists and track email performance metrics.
  • Write monthly blog posts highlighting local manufacturers and event recaps.

 

Event Support

  • Assist with creating event marketing materials and promotional content.
  • Manage event registration and communications.
  • Provide on-site support during events.
  • Capture photo and video content during events.
  • Create post-event content and recap materials.
  • Support virtual event technical needs.

 

General Marketing Support

  • Assist with event promotion.
  • Update website content as needed.
  • Support marketing initiatives across programs.
  • Maintain a digital asset library.
  • Help to monitor and ensure quality and accuracy of content
  • Track and report on marketing metrics.

 

Administrative Work

  • Go to the mailbox (at 150 Hooper St, San Francisco) to retrieve mail once a week
  • Sort important mail from junk mail.
  • Forward scans of documents to staff members.
  • Deposit checks.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in digital marketing or communications
  • Proven experience managing social media for business or nonprofit
  • Proficiency with Canva for graphic design
  • Experience with Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms
  • Familiarity with Wix for updating websites
  • Strong photography and video editing skills and experience creating social media videos
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work arrangement with some in-person meetings required
  • Occasional attendance at events and manufacturer visits for content creation
  • Must have access to reliable computer and internet connection
  • Must provide own camera equipment (phone camera acceptable for most content)

 

Compensation and hours

  • 15 to 20 hours per week (flexible schedule)
  • $35/hour

Joyce Shulman – Board Development Committee
Principal at Sonder Collective

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
