Job Description

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

What You’ll Do:

As a Powertrain Manufacturing Technician, you will be in a hands-on role assembling our 4 variants of engines for our Midnight aircraft. The production line is mostly manual processes, so following work instructions with close attention to detail will be the most important aspect of this role.

  • Work closely with the engineering teams to support equipment bring-up and process validation
  • Use manual, semi-automated, and automated equipment to build electric engines which includes inverters, gearboxes, and motors
  • Troubleshoot equipment and processes
  • Debug electric engines
  • Build basic lab fixtures and tools
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment
  • Perform inspections and measurements of product dimensions using basic metrology tools, (calipers, micrometer, depth gauges, measurement microscope, etc…)

 

What You Need:

  • Associate’s Degree, or 5+ years in manufacturing industry
  • Direct hands-on build experience with mechanical and electronic assemblies using technical documentation
  • High workmanship standards
  • Ability to follow formal build instructions and document deviations
  • Excellent documentation and written communication; proficient using Microsoft Office
  • Basic knowledge of drafting standards (read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings) to produce parts and assemblies
  • Experience using measurement and inspection (caliper, micrometer, height gage, CMM…)
  • Familiarity with 5S or similar workplace organization methods
  • Experience following all aspects of maintenance safety protocol (LOTO, 5S, Arc Flash, etc.).

 

Bonus Qualifications:

  • IPC Certification or knowledge
  • Experience working with an R&D environment

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
