Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

Battery Cell Test Technician

We are looking for a cell test technician to execute a variety of battery cell tests to characterize Archer’s battery cells. As part of the cell engineering team, you will work closely with analysis engineers, modeling engineers, and test engineers to collect the data needed to qualify new and existing cell designs, along with parameterize our cell models. As a key contributor to cell test operations, you will coordinate and maintain on-going cell tests, plan and execute new tests, and communicate and document work in an organized manner.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct cell electrical tests using a variety of electrical and environmental battery test equipment
  • Maintain long term cell tests spanning weeks to months
  • Fabricate or repair test equipment and fixtures
  • Conduct simple physical and mechanical tests on battery cells
  • Contribute to documentation of testing procedures and results
  • Perform periodic calibration and maintenance of testing equipment
  • Practice safe handling of live, energized battery cells and follow safe lab practices

 

What you need:

  • 3+ years of hands-on electrical testing experience in a laboratory or industry environment
  • Experience with data acquisition, test engineering, data analysis
  • Practical knowledge of electrical systems and thermal systems
  • A first-principles problem solving approach
  • Awareness of laboratory hazards and adherence to lab safety practices

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with battery cell testing and chemistry
  • Arbin, Neware, Maccor, or Biologic cycler experience is desired
  • Experience with battery module or pack testing
  • Hands-on experience in R&D tooling, machining, or equipment fabrication
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or similar
  • Experience with DO-160G, DO-311A, UL1642, UN38.3
  • Experience writing testing documentation or SOPs

Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Joyce Shulman – Board Development Committee

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
