Job Description

Hey! Do you like hummus? Are you passionate about community and local food systems? Do you have experience working in commercial kitchens?

About Us

Obour Foods is a small, San Francisco-based producer of gourmet dips and pita chips. We currently sell through multiple farmers’ markets, breweries, and grocery stores around the Bay Area – as well as our flagship brick & mortar retail location at the San Francisco Ferry Building Marketplace.

Many say our hummus is the best they’ve ever had. We’re inclined to agree.

The Position

We’re now hiring a dependable and detail-oriented Ingredient Prep Cook to support our production team one day per week. Working with our Production Manager, you’ll prep all the fresh ingredients needed for our weekly hummus production — from garbanzo beans to tahini to roasted vegetables and everything in-between — and help with general kitchen tasks and organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Weigh and soak garbanzo beans according to precise batch formulas
  • Weigh, process, roast, and portion vegetables (e.g., beets, eggplant, bell pepper etc.)
  • Weigh and portion fresh herbs (e.g., parsley, cilantro)
  • Weigh and portion fresh herbs, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and other key ingredients
  • Label and organize ingredients clearly for the production team
  • Clean, sanitize, and organize prep stations and kitchen tools
  • Label and organize outgoing wholesale orders
  • Communicate clearly with the production manager if anything is missing or low

Requirements

  • Must be confident and experienced with weights, measurements, and portioning in a food production or commercial kitchen environment
  • Strong attention to detail — accuracy is everything in this role
  • Able to work independently and stay on task with minimal oversight
  • Can lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods
  • Food Handler Certificate Prior kitchen or production experience strongly preferred

Schedule, Location and Compensation

  • Days: Thursdays | 9am – 3pm
  • Pay: $21/hour
  • Location:
    • Obour Foods Commercial Kitchen
    • 1566 Carroll Ave, San Francisco 94124
