Job Overview

Come work at Abanico Coffee Roasters, we are a company that intersects Latin American coffee culture and specialty coffee. We are now hiring Baristas to help us share these cafecitos with love from the Mission District in San Francisco. If you’re a passionate self-starter and love coffee, we are waiting for you!

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve coffee and tea drinks that meet quality standards
  • Serve with a welcoming and hospitable attitude
  • Properly handle and maintain all equipment
  • Respond to orders, questions, concerns, and complaints in a polite and efficient manner
  • Accurately handle cash and credit card payments, following appropriate cash-handling procedures
  • Serve customers quickly and efficiently
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all the menu offerings
  • Observe relevant health and safety standards
  • Maintain a clean café and safe space for both employees and customers

 

Qualifications for Barista

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Flexible schedule and weekend availability
  • Flexibility to perform different tasks, while sometimes multitasking and in a professional manner
  • Ability to have fun! We are happy to train the right candidate.
  • Shows up on time to work, ready and takes pride in their work
  • Retail, hospitality, and/or customer service experience preferred but not required
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred but not required
  • Strong ability to multi-task
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Ability to problem solve quickly
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions

 

Physical Requirements

These physical requirements are essential duties to successfully perform the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to for persons with disabilities.

  • Stand and sit for at least eight hours per day
  • Work with hands for at least eight hours per day
  • Perform job duties that include, standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting, bending, wiping, pushing and pulling items
  • Ability to learn how to use restaurant equipment, following cleaning schedules and instructions.

  • Salary: $18.70 an hour plus tips

Joyce Shulman – Board Development Committee
Principal at Sonder Collective

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
