Fort Point Beer Company is the only SFMade member we know of that’s manufacturing at the Presidio. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the brewery makes for an iconic backdrop—and a visual reinforcement that this is a company planning on being a San Francisco brand for many years to come.
Two years ago the Catalanas brothers installed a 24,000-barrel capacity brewery in a historic building in Crissy Field, hoping to apply their brewing skills from Mill Valley Beer Works to a new San Francisco production brewery. Since then the company has quickly grown to almost 50 employees, tripled production, opened a kiosk at the ferry building and is self- distributing around the entire Bay Area.
“There’s a great tradition of craft in San Francisco, and we wanted to be a part of that wave,” said Colleen Fredericks, Marketing Manager. By self distributing the company is also creating a number of jobs, like drivers and warehousing roles, important to maintaining the diversity of employment opportunities in San Francisco.
Helping to propel the company’s growth is certainly the Fort Point brewing style, purposefully less hoppy or boozy than many of their craft beer neighbors. The beers are approachable, balanced, and pair well with food.
To try them, find cans at local grocers, taps at restaurants around the Bay Area, or stop by the Ferry Building for a pint (and growler to take home).
