Ten SFMade Companies Rockin it on Social Media |
Is your Facebook feed getting a little stale? Mix it up with news from your neighborhood manufacturers! Here are ten SFMade members who keep us regularly informed and entertained on various platforms— they're good inspiration for businesses looking to start using social media, and just plain fun for the rest of us!
Betabrand on Facebook

From the beginning, Betabrand has charmed its fans with a hilarious email newsletter, and that playfulness transfers right over to Facebook. Followers participate in photo caption contests and vote on product ideas that are then released as limited edition items (we're particularly excited about the Meat Feet Sock Three-Pack moddled after the salumi sampler at Boccalone).
On Facebook Giraux Jewelry shares heartwarming photos of couples with their new engagement rings. Fiat Lux also shows off newly-made rings for on Instagram, along with other handmade eye candy they have in their retail store.
Humphry Slocombe on Facebook

Their daily ice cream distraction keeps us hungry, giggly and excited to know what flavor they'll come up with next.
TCHO on Pinterest
From chocolate FAQ's, to photos of source materials, to chocolate recipes, TCHO's boards are a great source of chocolate inspiration.
Crave on Pinterest
An inside look into the luxury sex toy factory, plus beautiful images of women they love.
Yellow Owl Workshop on Instagram

Yellow Owl Workshop makes greeting cards and stamp sets, and you can see the design process (plus the designer's beautifully handwritten notes and doodles) by following on Instagram.
DODOcase, Rickshaw Bagworks and Timbuk2 on Twitter
All three companies do a great job of regularly tweeting out sales, products spotted in the streets, as well as news and events of interest to their communities. DODOcase and Rickshaw actively use their accounts to respond to customer service inquiries. Timbuk2 often takes photos while they're on the road, and we'll gladly follow!

Company Spotlight: Drip Module |
We always know when one of the companies that makes their products inside TechShop San Francisco has gotten a big order. Boxes are piled high, there's less table space, and new faces are assembling, packing, or 3D printing. This month, Drip Module has been busy.
Inspired by the frozen shape of water droplets, the two-year-old company makes stylish bowls, trays, clocks, pet products, and coffee tables. To make their products they use a rapid prototyping technique that employs injection molding, laser cutting, and CNC.
Drip Module is one of the six brands participating in the SFMade Pop-Up at the Westfield Shopping Center, where each month a different company gets discounted kiosk space. So far, the pilot program has served its purpose— creating high visibility and exposer to new companies for smaller under-the-radar brands who don't have retail stores of their own.
"On our first day we got 700 orders from an online retailer," said EJ Tanu, co-founder. "Before that we only had a few small accounts." Orders have grown steadily since then, and his temp workers are busy meeting wholesale orders of up to 2,000 units. "The plan is to hire them full-time, and start reaching out to investors so we can get some new equipment," he said.
Drip Module will be at the Westfield through the end of July.
