Demarcus got one step closer to his dream of starting his own apparel manufacturing business after being hired as Timbuk2’s Production Coordinator.
Demarcus found the job through the CCSF Fashion Department, that collaborates with SFMade to share our job opportunities with their students.
Demarcus was specifically interested in learning more about local manufacturing but didn’t see a lot of opportunities to do that. When he found the Production Coordinator job opening, he was very excited to find an opportunity with a company that manufactured locally in San Francisco.
Demarcus noticed that the job had been open for some time and therefore didn’t think he had much of a chance but decided to apply anyway through the SFMade job board. Good thing he did, because he was invited to a phone interview and then an in-person interview. One week later, he got a job offer!
Demarcus has been working at Timbuk2 for a month and has loved it so far! As a Production Coordinator, Demarcus is responsible to execute and oversee logistical process of raw materials, shipping, and inventory control. There are a lot of aspects to his job, which means there’s a lot to learn. According to him, “you won’t learn this anywhere else.”
Not only is Demarcus learning about his role but he’s had opportunities to learn about other aspects of Timbuk2’s business including product development, promotions and pattern-making. He feels that his supervisors are invested in helping him learn and gain the experience he needs to further his career.
This opportunity is Demarcus’s first job in the fashion industry and he feels lucky to have found a company with such a great culture! We’re excited to see Demarcus grow within the company and to continue collaborating with local Workforce Partners to match their job seekers to the great opportunities available at our member businesses.
