About the Role

Are you someone who enjoys working with your hands, learning about machinery, and has experience in manufacturing? Join our Operations team at Gordon Biersch Brewing Company as a Machine Operator! You’ll play an essential role in ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards.

Work Schedule: 8 Hour Shift with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break,

Either 4:00am – 12:30pm, or 12:00pm-8:30pm, or 8:00pm – 4:30am Monday-Friday.

  • Required to work overtime as needed, which could include weekend work.
  • Required to work assigned shift.

Pay: $19-25/hr DOE

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate Packaging Equipment: Load packaging materials, perform machine setup, execute machine changeovers, and monitor equipment.
  • Safety & Sanitation: Perform regular equipment cleaning and maintenance, handle cleaning chemicals safely, and follow all safety procedures.
  • Quality Control: Conduct routine quality checks and ensure products meet our standards throughout production.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in initiatives to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Reporting & Communication: Complete production reports, communicate effectively with team members, and maintain organized and clean work areas.
  • Equipment Management: Operate designated machine centers, handle tools, interact with HMI control technology, iPads, and two-way radios.

Physical Requirements

  • Adapt to changing production schedules, including additional shifts, on-call duties, or overtime.
  • Regularly lift up to 75 lbs., and push or pull up to 200 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, bend, and reach continuously; walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs, and ascend/descend ladders.
  • Comfortable handling and working around moving machinery and cleaning chemicals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years in a high-speed packaging line or manufacturing setting; food or beverage industry preferred.
  • Skills: Familiarity with industrial machinery, especially with an emphasis on maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Communication: Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Math Skills: Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication).
  • Equipment Operation: Experience with forklifts and pallet jacks is a plus.

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
