SFMade works to support local manufacturers throughout the region so that they can thrive, innovate, and create good jobs to help create a more diverse and sustainable economy in the Bay Area.  We work to foster a thriving ecosystem where manufacturers can flourish, creating quality jobs that benefit families and individuals in our community.  Our network of over 700 local manufacturers in San Francisco, San Jose, and the East Bay sustains more than 10,000 jobs.

Leadership

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, SFMade is governed by a dedicated ten-member Board of Directors and managed by its CEO. The executive leadership team, of which the Development Director is a member, is supervised by the CEO and includes experienced leaders responsible for strategy, program development, fundraising, administration, finance, and accounting. 

 

Position Overview

The Development Director is a key leadership team member who participates in strategic decisions that advances SFMade’s mission, impact, and longevity. This position is exempt, salaried, and non-union.

The Development Director is responsible for developing and successfully executing a plan to maintain and grow the current annual plan of $2.1 million through a combination of city, state and federal grant programs, and to build on SFMade’s base of foundation and corporate grants, major gifts, individual donors, and event fundraisers. The CEO is a partner in development, and provides direct help with fundraising strategy, tactics, and implementation. The Development Director attends occasional Board meetings to provide updates, share strategies for donor cultivation, and encourage Board giving. The Development Director works with the Salesforce administrator but is otherwise responsible for all development activities and record-keeping.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization’s annual revenue goals.
  • Work to ensure continuity of grant funding from government sources (city, state and federal grants and contracts) as well as institutional funders (foundations/corporations).
  • Working in collaboration with the CEO, develop a strategy and prospect list for major gift prospects, as well as corporate and foundation donors.
  • Plan and develop special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.
  • Collaborate with the program team to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials.
  • Work closely with the CEO to develop fundraising strategies and goals.
  • Work with the Board to ensure 100% Board participation in annual gifts.
  • Manage grants through their entire life cycle, including drafting grant applications and follow-up reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling grant applications, donor communications, and marketing materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Board members, and volunteers.
  • Experience with in city, state and federal grant programs preferred.
  • Experience developing a major gifts program and a record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special events.
  • Experience with fundraising software and donor databases.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing laterally within an organization.
  • A deep commitment to the mission and values of our organization.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $120,000 – $130,000, based on experience
  • Location: This is a remote position with the possibility of working from the office. Candidates should be located in the Bay Area.
  • Reporting Structure: This position reports to the CEO.
