The Job at a Glance

We’re currently searching for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our ranks and continue our tradition of success and innovation.

The Manufacturing Engineer plays a pivotal role in bringing products out of engineering and into production in a timely and efficient manner. They support the production department to ensure that the quality, cost, and delivery requirements are met/exceeded.

The position interfaces greatly with Product Design, Quality, and Manufacturing departments to shorten our design to manufacturability cycle.

The position requires a strong hands-on approach, continuous improvement mentality and the application of industrial, mechanical and electrical expertise to develop, document, and train the production department to ensure efficient production workflow.

 

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

  • Drives production initiatives to increase efficiency, decrease manufacturing costs and improve product quality.
  • Leads manufacturing activities to support the current production line by addressing defects, creating/updating procedural documentation and process improvement projects.
  • Ensures that New Product Introduction requirements are properly vetted in order to meet product specifications, budget and target launch dates.
  • Supports increased demand for new product development and efficient transition to manufacturing.
  • Coordinates with the Engineering team in developing, documenting, and training on manufacturing procedures and instructions for in-house designed products.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

 

Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial) with a strong GPA and minimum of 5 years experience in a Manufacturing/Mechanical environment.
  • Mechanical Aptitude and exposure to machining and related finishing operations
  • Solidworks knowledge
  • Knowledge of Engineering Change Notices and documentation control
  • Electrical Troubleshooting Experience Preferred
  • Labview Experience Preferred
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Exceptional work ethic and proven track record of success either in academia or industry
  • Must be a self-starter, able to recognize work without waiting for assignments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Team-player; Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma background preferred
  • ESD control knowledge preferred
  • ISO 9001 knowledge preferred

Joyce Shulman – Board Development Committee

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
