We are looking for an extrovert advocate that works well with young adults from diverse backgrounds. You should be a champion for young people looking for jobs, a meticulous organizer, a clear communicator and comfortable presenting in front of a classroom.
PRESENTATIONS – High School teachers will be inviting you into their classrooms. An important part of your job is making presentations about local makers, what manufacturing jobs look like and tips on how to get one. We’ll give you some talking points but you can develop your own style.
INTERNSHIPS – We need your help to match up young adults with manufactures that could use a hand. We have a team of Engagement Managers that will help get the word out and connect you with interested manufacturers. The interns get paid but it doesn’t cost the manufacturer anything. Win-win. Other non-profits will do a lot of the heavy lifting, you are the connector and the scorekeeper.
REAL JOBS – Each year it’s our goal to help young people get real jobs in manufacturing or help them connect with educational programs that will set them up for success for a career in manufacturing. The presentations you’ve made and the work you’ve done to secure internships lay the groundwork for real jobs (even if they are temporary or part time – it’s a start!).
RELATIONSHIPS – You’ll be the main point of contact for educational institutions and a lot of the wonderful youth-serving nonprofits that we’ve been working with for years.
We’ll also be counting on your help with related projects like running tables at job fairs, meeting with the organizers of other non-profits, helping young people with resumes, or employers with job postings.
Our funders keep us honest by requiring that we meticulously document the work we do. You’ll be tracking and logging your progress. We’ll show you how.
DAY TO DAY
We have an office in San Francisco that you can use, but if you like it, feel free to work from home; most of us do. Additionally, you’ll be visiting factories, classrooms and other offices for face to face meetings here in San Francisco and occasionally in other parts of the Bay Area. We’ll cover your local transportation costs to these in person meetings.
