About us

MMclay is a San Francisco based studio run by ceramic artist and designer, MaryMar Keenan. We produce handmade dinnerware and ceramic tabletop pieces for some of the best restaurants in the country, a growing number of interior designers, and tables all over the world.

 

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Assist clients in finding the perfect pieces, as well as develop and maintain organic relationships with visitors to the showroom.
  • Understanding and communicating MMclay’s aesthetic, mission, and events to clients through product knowledge, and storytelling.
  • Develop an understanding of the MMclay product lines, and the characteristics unique to each piece
  • Aid in creating and sustaining a warm/inviting environment
  • Ensure that all retail locations are clean, organized, and stocked/merchandised properly at all times
  • Opening and closing showroom at 69 Gough
  • Replenishing stock, and participating in inventory cycle counts
  • Packing pottery for pick ups and shipping
  • Proper packaging and understanding of shipping software
  • Inventory and ordering of shipping supplies
  • Assisting with events
  • Organizing and managing chore board for other staff
  • Keeping studio kitchen organized and clean

 

Requirements

What you’ll need:

  • Personable and emotionally intelligent, with both excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Organized and detail oriented, with the ability to prioritize competing projects and tasks
  • Experience with POS systems (Shopify), and very comfortable with technology
  • A keen eye for the details
  • Able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Available to work weekends and holidays
  • Prior experience working with craft or ceramics not necessary, but valued
  • Ability to be street smart, and exhibit grace when under pressure

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to easily lift 30 lbs or more
  • Comfortable with repetitive reaching, lifting, bending, kneeling
  • Comfortable with being on ladders and shipping scaffolding

Joyce Shulman – Board Development Committee
Principal at Sonder Collective

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
