About Us

Abanico Coffee Roasters combines Latin American coffee culture with specialty coffee to create exceptional café experiences. We are committed to delivering high-quality coffee and outstanding hospitality to our guests while fostering a supportive and respectful team environment.

 

Job Summary

We are seeking Baristas who love people, love hospitality, and take pride in their work. If you are punctual, reliable, proactive, and team-oriented, we want to hear from you.

 

Responsibilities

As a Barista at Abanico Coffee Roasters, you will:

  • Prepare and serve coffee and tea beverages that meet our quality standards
  • Provide warm, welcoming, and hospitable service to every guest
  • Maintain café equipment properly and safely
  • Handle orders, questions, and payments accurately and efficiently
  • Keep the café clean, organized, and inviting
  • Support your team, take initiative, and anticipate operational needs
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all menu items.
  • These responsibilities must be followed according to Abanico’s standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Genuine passion for hospitality and serving people
  • Reliable, punctual, and ready to work each shift with professionalism
  • Strong work ethic and respect for the job, teammates, and customers
  • Flexible schedule including weekends
  • Retail, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred but not required • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred but not required
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Physical Requirements
    • Stand, walk, lift, and use hands for up to 8 hours per day
    • Perform tasks including bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching • Learn and safely operate café equipment
    • Adapt to changing tasks while maintaining professionalism
    • Maintain a positive, engaging attitude throughout the shift

Joyce Shulman – Board Development Committee
Principal at Sonder Collective

Joyce is an innovation strategist who is passionate about creating positive social change. She is a consultant at Sonder Collective, a social impact consultancy specializing in climate, humanitarian, and global health issues.

With 15 years of experience in various sectors, Joyce brings expertise in strategic planning, research, and developing solutions. Her work is fueled by her curiosity and commitment to making a difference. Before joining Sonder Collective, she worked at digital health startups, Kaiser Permanente Innovation, Elevance Health Innovation, and  PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services. 

Joyce has a Master of Business Administration from the California College of the Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. She strongly believes in the power of creativity and entrepreneurship, which she promotes through graduate teaching at the California College of the Arts. She also served on the board of The Crucible, an industrial arts school in West Oakland. Currently, she serves as a founding advisory board member for COVEN, which focuses on activating spaces and places for monumental art. 

Joyce lives in San Francisco with her husband. They recently completed their first host experience within a cultural exchange program and are committed to hosting each year. In her free time, she enjoys adventuring in nature and collaborative public art projects with Five Ton Crane at Seaport Studios in Richmond.
