Launched in 2010, SFMade is a one-of-a-kind, non-profit economic development organization that is passionate about creating a robust system of support for local, entrepreneurial manufacturers so that they can thrive, and in turn, create and sustain quality jobs with pathways to advancement. We do this by providing industry specific guidance, education, and resources to the local manufacturing sector, and by connecting diverse, low-income individuals to employment opportunities in the sector. SFMade has expanded its regional footprint from San Francisco to include programs in both the East and South Bay.

HOW TO APPLY: Please start by answering a few questions here:
As our Development Director you will play a key role in helping us build a more equitable society where there are pathways to economic mobility for diverse, historically marginalized and low-income individuals. You will be the primary driver of the fundraising cycle at SFMade and will ensure that the right systems are in place to make that possible. You will identify new funding opportunities and ensure that they are pursued, that grants and contracts are properly managed, and that our community of supporters are informed and engaged in the work of the organization through communications and events.
This is a full-time, exempt position that is mostly REMOTE, but that entails attending in-person meetings and events so you must be local to the Bay Area. You’ll be reporting to our CEO. You’ll need to be fully vaccinated.
DAY TO DAY: You’ll be working very closely with our CEO to build and maintain our fundraising pipeline, and with our Program team to explore ways to respond to funding opportunities and report on our impact in grant reports. You and our Controller will collaborate on grant management, budgets, and cash flow.
Your time with us might look something like this:
40% Outreach and pipeline development, incl. grant writing
30% Grant and Contract Management: impact tracking, spend down, reporting
20% Communications with funders, stakeholders, and community
10% Event & Campaign management and execution
YOU: You will be a seasoned fundraising professional with knowledge of best practices in development and a proven ability to help create and achieve goals of a multi-strategy development plan. Your strong strategic and implementation skills will allow you to grasp the opportunities and challenges of the organization and the role. Ideally, you will have a broad fundraising experience (foundations, corporations, government contracts, individual donors), and experience with Board engagement.
It will be important for you to have outstanding communication skills (written and verbal), and a knack for conveying what we do with ease and conviction. A demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and leadership skills is a must.
This is not an old-fashioned stodgy non-profit. We are forward-thinking problem solvers working for creative entrepreneurs and you will bring this spirit of creativity and can-do spirit to our development efforts. We embrace technology whenever it can help.
