Job Duties

Position Summary
This position ensures we at Heath are providing a safe workplace with care for the environment, our staff, and our communities as we manufacture, design, and sell our products. This individual will have the opportunity to create, shape, and maintain a cohesive company-wide safety program that meets these needs.  

While regulatory compliance is a must, Heath’s priority is to constantly improve workplace safety and care for our environment and communities. Therefore, in addition to being fluent with all applicable regulations, this person must enthusiastically implement actual change through effective communication, training, and hands-on implementation. 

As a key member of Heath’s management team, this role requires an effective forward-thinking EH&S professional to guide the diverse day-to-day needs of Heath’s people, manufacturing, retail, administration, and facilities. 

Responsibilities
- Propagate a conscious culture of safety through employee involvement, training and empowerment
- Enact hazardous material communications (hazard signage, area & container labeling, etc.)
- Perform risk assessment of equipment and processes 
- Coordinate/implement corrective actions for injuries, illnesses, incidents and near-misses 
- Perform regular safety inspections and report results to managers
- Ensure tenants, contractors and visitors are aware of applicable EH&S policies 
- Guide Heath on proper PPE and First-Aid product selection and use
- Manage required programs including Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Respiratory Protection  
- Program, Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste Program, Hazardous Communications Program, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program & Emergency Response Program
- Be Heath’s contact for local, state, and federal agencies 
- Create and maintain all records of EH&S compliance
- Manage SDS’s - ensure current, accurate information is well organized and accessible
- Manage Heath’s hazardous waste program (contractor, inspections, manifests, state reporting)
- Monitor and ensure proper waste stream disposal and compliance (including air-born, water, solids)

Job Requirements

Qualifications
- B.S. Environmental Health and Safety and or Occupational Health (preferred but not essential)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or comparable certifications
- Minimum of 5 to 10  years working in a multidisciplinary and complex business environment with ability to work independently 

Physical Requirements 
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs, use a ladder and climb around equipment/facility and on the roof  
- Requires some hands-on work: take material samples, organize waste storage and processing areas,     occasionally operate wastewater systems (can train others).  
- Install signs/labels to support safety program

$110,000 -$125,000

Hours

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with benefits working Monday through Friday. This position pays $110,000 -$125,000 annually, based on experience. As the future of work evolves, so do we. We have a hybrid model where our roles are open to in-office, flex, or virtual work. This role is a flex position that requires some time on-site in Sausalito and San Francisco and some time working from home. Some travel is required (presently within California only). This position reports to the Production Director
