About Billie Marie:

Billie Marie is a San Francisco-based designer & manufacturer of leather bags, wallets and other small accessories. All of our leather goods are produced in small batches which allows for intense attention to detail and the highest quality possible while maintaining an accessible price point in comparison to other similar quality handmade leather goods. We design functional, durable and unique-looking neutrals for everyday use.

The business was founded by Owner & Designer Lake Taylor in Seattle in 2016 under the brand name Buffalo & Co. In 2017, Lake moved the brand to San Francisco. In fall 2018, the company re-branded to Billie Marie and Lake and her small team opened the first BM Boutique in Lower Nob Hill. The business shut down for 1 year in 2020-2021 due to COVID-related circumstances. Billie Marie re-launched as an e-commerce only business in September 2021 but hopes to open another brick-and-mortar boutique again someday.

All the leather goods are currently produced in our small artisan workshop in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco. Billie Marie is a small business with a tiny team so we are looking to add another self-motivated, detail-oriented Production Assistant to our “family”.

Job Duties

Job Overview:

The production assistant is responsible for two primary duties at Billie Marie;

1. Producing the brand’s stock designs according to the production calendar set out by the manager in an efficient and quality manner.
2. Managing inventory and materials in the workshop in a clean and organized way.

Production assistants are crucial to the business as they are the most impactful brand ambassadors the company has, understanding the construction of each design in depth as well as the materials used to create it. It is important that while working, each production assistant maintains an appropriate level of safety, quality work and efficiency. This means wearing comfortable, appropriate clothing, wearing the designated safety equipment, keeping track of production time, communicating with the owner about ideas for further improvement to the production process and tracking all materials used as well as finished products completed.

At Billie Marie, it is important that we maintain the health of our bodies since we work with our bodies. As a PA, you will be encouraged to take time out of your day to take a break, stretch your arms and back and do self-care for your bodily health outside of work.

Billie Marie is a very small business with a team of only a few people. Being a successful part of this small team means being a self-starter who is motivated to work hard, identify and communicate problems and volunteer for additional projects within their skillset when there is extra time in the day.
Responsibilities and Duties:

• Meets or exceeds production efficiency and quality goals
• Records daily production progress and times
• Tracks materials used during daily production
• Maintains brand appropriate conduct while working and in view of customers
• Communicates needs and questions to manager
• Takes on special projects when there is extra time outside the PA’s production schedule – Dependent on the qualifications and interests of the PA but could include
marketing projects, sales projects or organization, admin and process projects.
• Opens and closes the workshop
• Shows up to work on time and gives appropriate notice for vacation or time off requests

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Required –

• Understanding of how to perform basic functions on an iPad or computer
• Ability to work on your feet with both arms for up to 7 hours each day
• Craft/production work or hobby experience

Skills/Experience Preferred

Encouraged –

• Sewing machine experience
• Accessories construction experience
• Leather working experience including: chrome-tan and veg-tan edge finishing, cutting leather, hand-skiving, machine skiving & splitting and hand or machine sewing
leather.

Compensation

$20 per hr, paid bi-weekly

Other Application Requirements

Proof of up to date vaccination and booster (both COVID vaccinations are required. The COVID booster is also required if the second COVID vaccination was received 6 months or more before start of employment) are required for all on site jobs at Billie Marie. Employees are not currently required to wear masks while working if they have up to date vaccinations. This is subject to change with local city guidance.
