Job Duties

The Opportunity: We have an immediate opening for a full-time Service Butcher who will be responsible for all aspects of the meat/poultry/fish service case, including, maintaining merchandising standards and supporting the deli as an expert in butcher knowledge. Our service butchers are well versed in the animal husbandry practices of our ranchers as well as the various aspects of responsible meat production. Our service butchers are adept at offering cooking tips as well as being able to guide guests through the process of placing a special order.

Primary Responsibilities:
Support the deli servers as their meat, fish and poultry expert – assisting in training and sharing butchery knowledge and skills
Work in partnership with DSM (deli service manager) and DSS (deli shift supervisor) to maintain excellent merchandising standards
Use the deli journal to convey pertinent information regarding the days shift
Set-up and/or breakdown personal workstation daily including knives, cutting boards, mise en place, equipment, linens (apron, shirt, towels), etc.
Serves guests at both the prepared foods counter and butcher counter. Accurately weighs, wraps, and prices all raw and cooked products.
Demonstrates a solid foundation in protein-cooking knowledge. Consults guests on selecting and cooking all types of meat, including fish, poultry, pork, lamb, and beef.
Prepares sandwiches to order and manages the sandwich station. Demonstrates skill in processing a high volume of sandwich orders daily.
Works in conjunction with Department Head/Buyer/DSS to complete daily tasks organize side work and daily project lists.

Job Requirements

Your Expertise:

Has a passion for food!
Six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Provide a high level of expertise to our guests regarding our product assortment as well as preparation advice
Convey information to deli regarding specials, new items, price changes and items to push.
Works well under pressure and maintains a positive and productive energy-level.
Continuous standing, walking, bending, reaching, sitting and carrying loads between 15-50 lbs.
ServSafe Certification, California Food Handler Card required

$15.00+/hour starting wage, DOE
