ABOUT SFMADE:

SFMade, launched in 2010, is a first of its kind, non-profit economic development organization, and a national model, focused on providing industry specific guidance, education, and resources to the manufacturing sector, helping companies to grow in place and create jobs for the local workforce. Manufacture : San Jose is a project of SFMade that launched in April of 2018, in partnership with the City of San Jose, with a mission to drive much needed knowledge, resources, and visibility to the city’s more than 1200 manufacturers and the more than 50,000 men and women they employ. In addition, MFG:SJ also connects job seekers and workforce development services to open positions among our manufacturing partners and, through our YouthMade program, MFG:SJ provides career exposure programs for under resourced youth in San Jose.

Job Duties

SFMade is seeking an energetic, highly organized, and entrepreneurial person to support and deliver a suite of innovative, high performing Workforce and Youth programs for Manufacture : San Jose (MFG: SJ). MFG:SJ  is a project of SFMade and part of our regional expansion,  focused on leveraging the manufacturing sector to create a more equitable and inclusionary economy.

The Workforce and Youth Program Manager reports to the MFG:SJ Regional Director, and will work closely with the workforce team. Tasks and projects will include (but not be limited to) the following areas:

Job Board

● Engage MFG:SJ member businesses to use the job board
● Manage the Job Board—post openings, and track positions
● Schedule interviews and conduct phone screenings for workforce partner referrals
● Be an intermediary between partner Employers and Organizations, assisting in creating and supporting partnerships

Workforce Partner Outreach

● Create and maintain relationships with workforce partners
● Coordinate and attend job fairs, workforce program graduations, Job Huddle meetings, and other community events on behalf of MFG:SJ
● Give workforce partner staff presentations

Internship Programs

● Coordinate with our youth partner San Jose Works (serving high school career and technical education students.)
● Oversee logistics for summer youth internship program including business recruitment, and scheduling for programs in San Jose
● Travel to youth partners and introduce participating students to MFG:SJ
● Site visits to participating businesses with youth partner

Youth Programs Management

● Coordinate Inside Manufacturing programming in partnership with local High School Districts and participating manufacturers
● Coordinate tours, including logistics, and speaking events at local manufacturers for Inside Manufacturing and Manufacturing Week.


Reporting and Data

● Enter workforce and youth program data into Salesforce
● Collect and manage workforce data

Other
● Coordinate workforce and youth event logistics
● Story development: Gather and assist in writing success stories/content for social media and marketing collateral

You thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment, are inventive and resourceful and can stay on top of many moving parts using organizational systems. You either have a background, or possess transferable skills aligned to workforce and youth programming and have an interest in using that skill set to support equitable economic development in the Bay Area.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Workforce and Youth Programs Manager is a key and central role, dedicated to keeping a finger on the pulse of the companies we serve and providing them with targeted technical Workforce and Youth program offerings. The primary goal of this position is to ensure that the appropriate type and level of support is provided to the companies MFG:SJ is engaged with so that they can create new jobs and to develop and foster efforts to bring greater visibility to career pathways in manufacturing for adults and youth through our workforce and hiring programs.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: working independently on projects, with small businesses, in the workforce or youth field, and/or marketing and outreach, or in an economic development capacity. If skills/experience is not directly aligned, we invite interested applicants to supply us with details on transferable skills.

• We will consider applicants with any educational background. Education aligned to the fields of public administration, public policy, social work, business, human resources, related fields, or significant experience would be helpful.

• Outstanding organizational and project management skills: problem-solving, attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines and objectives.

• Excellent written and oral communications skills.

• Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse set of business owners, stakeholders, and partners.

• Comfortable with public speaking.

• Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) or similar programs, proficiency in Salesforce or related database (willing to train the right candidate in this regard), and Internet research abilities.

• Flexibility, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.

• Passion for the SFMade mission.

• Willingness to travel across the Bay Area, including San Francisco, for scheduled meetings and events.

Compensation

$70,000-$75,000 + benefits, DOE
