MADEIRA is an online fashion brand that addresses the lack of stylish, contemporary clothing for petite women who are 5’4″ and under. We dress petite women and short girls to crush it in their career and life through chic and problem-solving pieces that can be dressed up and down effortlessly, and through informative content on our website (www.madeirabrand.com/blogs/blog). Our customers are rule breakers and go-getters. We want to help them get through their day a little easier and confidently. They live a busy life and value time spent exploring new things and staying connected with friends and family above everything else. When it comes to shopping for clothes, it can be frustrating for them because most of the stylish options available from mainstream fashion industry are designed for women 5’6” and above. So, they often end up needing to alter their clothes at the tailor. And even then, the proportion may not be right. That is why we make multiple choices of inseam measurements available whenever we can so they don’t have to spend extra time to get it hemmed. “To me, it is a fashion product for social justice! There are so many beautiful options for tall women out there already. It is time for fashion brands to design and make for my fellow short women.” –Stephanie Yeung, CEO and Creative Designer of MADEIRA, 5’3”. Social responsibility It is in our brand culture to be conscious at the impact we may create from every decision we make along our product development and production process. To ensure a factory’s integrity and their job relevancy to our local economy, we chose to manufacture in San Francisco. This way we can visit them easily and often, and build strong relationships with the owners and the sewers. “Because most San Francisco sewing factories are run by Cantonese-speaking owners, I can talk to them in their mother tongue. It makes both of us feel home, and I enjoy that aspect of my creation. I feel that part of my culture is threaded into my products, literally!” – Stephanie About The Founder Stephanie Yeung came to the U.S. for college by herself at the age of 18 after growing up in Macau, a former Portuguese colony next to Hong Kong. She has a Ph.D. in bioengineering from U.C. Berkeley and spent a number of years working in both science and marketing functions using DNA and microchip to advance technologies in understanding human genome and crime fighting. After leaving her corporate job, she started MADEIRA to fulfill her long-time dream in fashion creation and using it in some way to bring social justice.
