Jocelyn Karlan Newman is not one to cry over spilt milk. When her newborn’s clothes were getting stained and stinky, she decided to do something about it, and created First Peak. First Peak is a line of baby clothes targeted towards making families with young children feel more confident going outdoors.
Jocelyn noticed that there are features of adult outdoor wear – like odor resistant fabrics, and thumb-loops that protect wrists and hands – missing from baby clothes. With no previous experience in manufacturing, Jocelyn set out to learn as much as she could by speaking with local sewers, pattern markers, and designers. She describes her business’ growth as very relationship driven:

Jocelyn applied to SFMade in April and started working with Client Engagement Manager Jefferson McCarley, who helped with advice about Social Media. She also got guidance on factories, testing, wholesale and markets from SFMade Co-Founder Janet Lees.
Going forward, First Peak will be adding new clothes for all seasons, and listening to customer feedback to evolve their designs and product line.
